Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement, originally started in 1916 for younger brothers who wanted a ‘look-in’. In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys. A Pack of Cub Scouts is organised into Sixes, with a Sixer and a Seconder in charge.
At 9th Lymington cubs, we offer a wide range of scouting activities to boys and girls aged between 8 and 10 years old. We offer a wide range of activities, from cooking for the chef badge, through to hikes away. The programme that we run for our cubs goes from strength to strength, with a balance of traditional scouting activities (a good campfire) through to the modern activities such as the water sports badge.
We are the only pack in our district lucky enough to offer an annual summer camp – and all our cubs have the opportunity to participate. Over the years we have been to many different locations, including the Lake District, Oxford and this year we set sail to Guernsey!
On camp, the cubs have what is often their first long trip away from home, enjoying a wide range of activities which last year varied from canoeing on Lake Windermere to hiking up to Easedale Tarn. Its through these experiences that the cubs form friendships, learn new skills and most importantly create memories that will last a lifetime.
As a pack we also love to put on a show! Every year we put together a scout gang show. This gives the cubs a chance to perform a variety of sketches and songs, as well as to show off what they have achieved throughout the past year. The gang show is a performance that lasts, the opportunity of showing off the years achievements to a large audience fills the cubs with pride and confidence.
At the heart of our pack is fun, excitement and adventure, all through the pleasure of scouting. Few of our cubs go to the same school or live on the same street, the one thing they have in common is the fun-filled action-packed adventure of scouting.
