Cubs Autumn Update
At cubs, we’ve had an excellent year so far. Our gang show at the end of November was very well received, the tickets sold and money raised from the auction and refreshments helped us to buy extra kit for activities, as well as going towards this years summer camp in Guernsey.
We’ve also tried out some of the new badges on offer, with 6 of our cubs being the first to accomplish the personal challenge award. For this they had to learn how to light the ultimate campfire as well as the best locations and designs to use. Then just to top it all, after some practise they had to light a fire with 1 match or using flint and steel.
In August we had an excellent summer camp in Guernsey; we are proud to be of only a small number of cub groups who run annual week long summer camps. It was made even more special by being there on the 70th anniversary since the liberation of Guernsey from occupation. The cubs had a great week, seeing forts from the occupation, trying out coasteering for the first time as well as going kayaking in Havelet Bay. Guernsey really was one of the biggest summer camps we’ve run, which had its fair share of challenges in getting there, however that was all dwarfed by being able to spend a week with some truly amazing cubs and leaders. The 2016 cub camp is already being planned – Cornwall is the destination!
Over the coming months we have a wide range of activities in the pipeline, which incorporates the new badges that have been added to the programme.
